Russia may launch world’s first coronavirus vaccine by 10 August

Russia has announced that it plans to launch a coronavirus vaccine as early as 10 August to 12 August, which can also be called the first Covid-19 vaccine in the world.

Drugs produced by the Moscow Gamaleya Institute and the Russian Direct Investment Fund can be licensed for civilian use within three to seven days of approval by regulators.

Previously, the state-run news agency RIA Novosti announced that the vaccine could be approved by August 15-16.

In addition, the Russian State Virology Institute launched clinical trials of the country’s second potential Covid-19 vaccine, with the first of five volunteers getting a dose on 27 July, announced by the RIA news agency on Tuesday.

Furthermore, Russian drug maker R-Pharm has reached a deal with AstraZeneca to produce a coronavirus vaccine produced by the British pharmaceutical firm and Oxford University.

The Russian Ministry of Defense has stated that experiments of the coronavirus vaccine are being carried out in strict accordance with the procedural requirements, without any effort to shorten the length of the testing.

Russia could take 30 million doses domestically in 2020 for the first Covid-19 vaccine, and 170 million overseas, with five countries showing interest in vaccine development and others ready to develop it.
