ARC Nigeria Partners States on Vaccine Storage To ensure that vaccines given to children in Nigeria are not denatured, the Africa Resource Centre for Supply Chain in Nigeria has partnered states and stakeholders in the private sector to strengthen the vaccine cold-chain infrastructure.
The Programme Manager, Immunisation Vaccine and Logistics, Niger State, Dr. Samuel Jiya , said the organisation had created a platform that would strengthen public-private partnerships in the immunisation  value chain system  in the country.
Jiya disclosed this at a Hackathon workshop on supply chain organised by ARC Nigeria, in partnership with the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency and Solina Group.
The workshop was attended by over 80 ministries of health directors and immunisation managers from Borno, Sokoto, Osun, Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Zamfara, Yobe and Niger states.
“The platform has facilitated direct engagement of players in the private and public sector For Niger State, we have outlined our challenges and proffered new innovations in tackling them, ”Jiya stated.
Speaking on the need for stronger immunisation programmes,the Executive Secretary, Osun State Primary Healthcare Development Board, said that the survival of Nigeria as a nation depended on the quality of health care systems  and status of its populace particularly those under five years.
 The Project Last Mile Delivery Lead, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Trip Allport, who said the organisation was collaborating with Coca Cola Company to ensure that medicines and supplies are made available across Africa at the right conditions.
He urged the participants to learn from such partnership strategies between the public and private sector.
Allport said, “We have developed the programme framework with NPHCDA at the federal level and plans are ongoing to pilot a new model of cold chain equipment maintenance at the state level and we are starting in Lagos. If it is successful, we’ll expand this support to other states in Nigeria.”
