Camden, affectionately called Cam, is one incredible kid, seriously. Cam suffers from a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), causing both cognitive and physical delays. Simple tasks, such as tying shoes or holding a pencil are extremely difficult for Cam. According to his website, as he aged, he became increasingly aware of his shortcomings, and his self-esteem suffered greatly. But that didn’t stop him from succeeding in business even at such a young age. He started a pop-up style coffee business as a hobby to help him elevate his strengths and to be empowered with the knowledge that he is a person of value who adds value to everyone with whom he interacts. He most recently opened the coffee shop’s first permanent location inside the Green Tree Community Center in his hometown of Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

“With the right support, kids and teens and individuals with special needs really can accomplish anything, and so today is basically our mission, our vision in action,” said Latasha Lewis, Cam’s mother at the grand opening ceremony.

What makes the coffee shop more special is the people behind the counter. Students who have disabilities from Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools were trained and hired to serve the customers. Aside from world-class brewed coffees, the coffee shop also offers baked goods from BeSpoke Confections, a company whose employees all have autism.

So not only is Cam a business owner, he’s a motivator, encourager, and all around great kid!
